I can't believe it's been so long since I last updated my LJ! Time has been flying by these past few months, between being buried in hat projects, I got married on May 23rd and had a fabulous trip out to New York City where Hey Sailor! had a hat show at the always incredible Dances of Vice on May 16th. Talk about a whirlwind! And it's not slowing down either! I've barely had a chance to settle back in after getting more hats together for magazine shoots, the Northern California Pirate Festival....and on and on.....

I wanted to share some new hat designs with everyone! I've been working like mad for the past couple of months getting pieces made up for some very exciting magazine shoots that were just done. The pink silk 'Rebecca' classic tilt hat and red silk 'Ruby' topper hat are one-of-a-kind pieces and the emerald silk 'Vamp' topper and 'Napoleon' bicorne hat are limited edition designs.

The 'Napoleon' bicorne hat is one that I've been wanting to create for a while and I am probably most excited about...I'm planning to make an early 19th century dandy ensemble to go with it so I can wear it for Ragwater performances, I've got the patterns, the piles of fabric, now I just need to find the time!

A wonderful time was had by all on our whirlwind trip to New York City to perform at Dances of Vice Valentines Voodoo Rhythms. It was fantastic to finally be able to meet the incredibly lovely rattengift and lulu! Shien, Lucas and Sarah were so sweet and hospitable, we are forever indebted to them for letting us stay at their apartment.

The show went even better than I could have imagined, the atmosphere was electric, the people so gracious....Shien has an amazing thing going with Dances of Vice, everyone who is a part of DOV seems to glow with this incredible excitement that can easily engulf and inspire you. It is truly something very very special. We need such a thing out here in the SF Bay Area! I am keeping my fingers crossed that DOV will make its way out to the west coast so everyone can see the fabulousness they are missing out on. Something like this does not come along very often....

This trip only whet my appetite for NYC, I am already counting on heading back out as soon as it is financially possible (perhaps for my birthday?!?) so that Kris and I can once again partake in another killer Dances of Vice event. Yes, it's like drugs, once you taste it you must go back for more!

Happy Holidays from Hey Sailor!

I hope everyone is having lovely wintery holiday season with their loved ones. It’s been one hell of a year and I can only hope that things will begin to look up with the start of the New Year and the induction of a new president.

I've got a ton of exciting things in the works for the New Year and what seems like a never-ending list of new designs to get made up and projects to start on.......I am cutting down my hours at my day job to spend more time on hats so that is a HUGE thing to look forward to, Hey Sailor!s business has picked up so much since I started just a year and a half ago!! My hopes are that within the next year I will be able to quit my full time job and focus solely on hats......we shall see! It’s a gigantic goal of mine that is beginning to look like more and more of a reality, needless to say I feel like I am closer than ever to reaching that goal.

Ragwater Revue will also be picking up some steam in this coming year, we’ve got our Valentines Day show at Dances of Vice in NYC coming up soon.....New York in February! The cold, cold loveliness of it all.....We’ll be there for fashion week too, hot diggity! Here’s the flyer for the show made up by the lovely rattengift:

Last Friday night my band, Ragwater Revue, performed for the first time with our brand new lineup (it's been just me and Kris for quite a while now so adding two more members is a HUGE deal!) and I just received a video clip of the song 'Alligator Baby' from the lovely Nana. And to top it off we are playing a Valentines Day show at Dances of Vice in NYC! We're all so excited about the new sound, I thought it'd share the clip here on my journal for those interested:

I’ve decided to come out from under the rock I’ve been hiding these past months? years? and actually update this journal. I have good intentions to continuously post updates from now on, but we’ll just have to see if I stick to my word!

I’ll go ahead and get everyone up to speed with the fabulously insane goings-on of my elegantly banal life……As some of you may know from past entries (wayyyy past), I am the singer for the garage swamp band Ragwater Revue. Since those last posts we have been trudging along and playing shows around the SF Bay Area and beyond. We’ve yet to make it to England or Spain but those trips are still simmering in the pot of our long term plans. We’ve also just added a new member to our little rag-tag group who will be playing bass with us, the wonderfully patient and lovable Gooby, whom we plan to debut at our upcoming Death Rock Dive Bar gig at The Stork Club on November 21st. Another little Ragwater tidbit: we’re finally working on a new EP! I’m not sure when it’ll be making it’s premier at your friendly local iTunes store but if I keep up with this journal you’ll most likely be the first to know!

A huge portion of my life right now (outside of working my run-of-the-mill 9-5 day job) is Hey Sailor! hats. Without knowing exactly what I was getting into I thought I’d put my art school degree to work and start making hats to wear onstage with Ragwater, when people began offering to buy them right off my head after performances I thought, “Well, what the hell, I might as well start making some hats and selling them.” And now here I am making TONS and TONS of hats in any and all of my spare time. I am selling them online, at shows like Tease-O-Rama and wholesaling them out to boutiques. Needless to say, the hats take up most of my mental and physical time (if that makes sense?) and that is probably what I will be utilizing this journal for. I’ll be posting images from recent photo shoots featuring my hats, new designs, inspirations, events, etc. Stuff that hopefully won’t bore everyone too much! Oh, and to top everything off, I am in the midst of planning a wedding for next spring! I’m practicing my micro-managing skills…

To get things started I thought I would share some photos from our time at Tease-O-Rama this year. We met so many fabulous people and sold quite a few hats, that said, I think we will be vending there next year as well. The main festivities took place on the nights of October 3 & 4th 2008 at Bimbos 365 Club in San Francisco.
